--- especially if you like driving curvy roads -- .
You see, that's the point of the trip.

This is NOT a "WE DRIVE THE TRACK DAY".

So WHY GO ?

• This is all about the fun of the drive to and from Calabogie
• Then maybe add to the adrenaline rush with a bit of excitement happening at Calabogie Motorsports Park
• Enjoy an early dinner with like-minded friends
• Get home before dark !

We are not sure if we are going to be able to pull this off this year.
Conditions need to be just right.

We need:

• a day when our local guys with experience going to Calabogie are available to be our guides (not Tuesday or Thursday)
• a nice day (no rain)
• before the days get too short (the first week of August is pretty much the limit)
• when there are no crowds at Calabogie (not a special event day or weekend)
• when Calabogie Motorsports Park is open to the public, in the afternoon

This all boils down to a QUICK FIX EVENING EVENT on August 5. If this does not work out, we will have to just try again next year.

We are overlooking the fact that, on August 5, it is a late afternoon to early evening event. It could mean the track will likely not open until a little while after we get there. It also means driving home partly in the dark if you stay to see the drivers on the track. (It is unfortunate that the event on this day changed from the 3PM event originally scheduled for this day, when we first started planning, but we will take what we can get.)

The QUICK FIX EVENING EVENT, on August 5, runs from 4:30PM to 7PM. It is "for drivers wanting to experience the track for the first time or those looking to check off an item on their adrenaline filled bucket list. It includes an orientation and theory session plus 45 minutes of exhilarating lapping following a lead car." (If you want to join in, you have until August 4 to register at calabogiemotorsports.com ).

Spectating is free for non-special events, which this is. (NOTE that: "All those arriving to the premises will be required to sign a waiver prior to entering.")

This is what you will find there:





The Motorsports Park reminds spectators to bring lawn chairs, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, water, comfortable footwear - expect to walk, hearing protection, and camera or binoculars. No food is allowed in the spectator area. No drones are allowed to fly on or around the track.

Speaking of food, there are a few choices:
1. Bogie Grill 'N Chill is a food truck on the East Side of County Road 511 (Lanark Road), just before (South of) Wilson Farm Road, which takes you into Calabogie Motorsports Park.
2. Inside the Motorsports Park there are 2 options:
- a food truck in the main paddock at the track
- TURN 21 Store in the middle paddock near the gas pumps (7:30AM-7PM)
- there are a couple of picnic tables available
3. We are suggesting an early dinner, (after meeting up at the Motorsports Park for a while,) at Redneck Bistro, 12609 County Road 511 (Lanark Road), a 10 minute drive beyond the Motorsports Park, in the town of Calabogie (613-752-1888). Your choice. We will try to make reservations for those who want to join us.

(2441 Parkedale, in Brockville - the outbuilding in front of the mall).

around NOON for a 12:30 departure.

The drive to Calabogie Motorsports Park should take roughly 2 hours.

Which way are we going ?
County Roads 29 (at Brockville) to 1 (at Toledo) to 511 (at Perth).

Route:

• leaving Thousand Islands Mall near Gabriel Pizza at 12:30 PM on August 3 OR 5 - date to be determined
• North on 29 (Stewart)
• just after Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire Station 3, left onto County Road 1
• through Toledo, to Kitley South Elmsley Townline Road
• follow County Road 1 left to the STOP sign (Anglican Church Road)
• follow County Road 1 to the right to the STOP sign at Highway 15
• left onto Highway 15 (towards Kingston) a short distance to Rideau Ferry Road
• follow County Road 1 right (Rideau Ferry Road) through Lombardy to Perth
• Rideau Ferry Road leads into Gore St. E (at the traffic light at Craig St. (County Road 43))
• follow Gore St. to North St. (which is 1 block past the next street light)
• left 1 block to Wilson St. W
• right to Trans Canada Highway 7 at the 4th street light
• left onto Dufferin St (Highway 7)
• right at 2nd street light onto Route 511 (Lanark Road towards Balderson)
• in Lanark Highlands, at the T in the road, follow 511 by turning left for 1 block (South St. is to the right)
• at the STOP sign, turn right onto George St. (Route 511)
• follow Route 511 (which becomes Lanark Road again) to Wilson Farm Road on the right and Barryvale Road on the left
• turn right onto Wilson Farm Road and follow to the end to Calabogie Motorsports Park

To get to Redneck Bistro:

• continue on Route 511, north (right) out of Wilson Farm Road
• cross the Madawaska River twice (2 branches)
• Redneck Bistro will be on your left in the next block

To go home, take a route that suites you best. Here are a few options:

• take 511 south to Perth, then ...
• go home the way we came
• OR take 43 to Smiths Falls (there may be construction) and 29 to Brockville
• OR take 15 and 5 to Athens, 42 to 29 to Brockville
